The Big Influence

Kim Kardashian, Kate Moss and Paris Hilton came out strong for Dolce and Gabbana, Bottega Veneta and Versace. Could this coat-tail riding become a risky business if public opinion sways?

The rise of the celebrity influencer really took off (pun intended) when NASA astronauts were given Corvettes. All of a sudden, astronauts went from fit sportsmanlike dudes, to rockstars, barrelling around the desert on very cool cars. And without the quasi-endorsement, I doubt Corvette would hold such a romantic part of every space-dreamers heart.

It makes perfect sense to hitch your wagon to a greater star power, but in this age where a star’s power can rise and fall at light speed, it takes a certain level of chutzpah to ride that rollercoaster with your brand’s good name.
